No mockingbirds were killed in the making of this album. Grunge crosses paths with the Beatles while dropping acid. It took a lot of listens for me to appreciate this album. Now I'm sick of it.
HüskerDü | Warehouse Songs and Stories (1987)
Joyous distorted guitar almost covers the lyrics but the message is clear: coming of age is hard. You're filled with hope and despair, confidence and fear. Fun and yet meaningful album.
The Jesus And Mary Chain | Darklands (1987)
Smooth. Sparse guitar work. Chill out with enough pop to lift you out of darkness.
The White Stripes | White Blood Cells (2001)
Retro. Modern. Cutting Edge. Timeless. Jack White is one of the most interesting musicians alive. I'm also excited to hear what he has done and what he is doing now.
Bob Marley & The Wailers | Natty Dread (1974)
Music from 1971: The Doors | L.A. Woman and Can | Tago Mago
The Doors | "L.A. Woman"
Awesome writing, top notch musicianship... of course the fact that this is a great album is news to no one. Still, it's fun to be reminded to give it a relisten now and then.
Can | "Tago Mago"
Some albums get better each time you listen to them. Some don't. And SOME even get worse. I was intrigued the first few times I listened to "Tago Mago" but the discordance and free form soloing eventually drove me up the wall. Some experiments should not be conducted.
Death In Vegas | The Contino Sessions (1999)
Umm... No.
The xx | "XX" (2009)
As Robert Dimery reviews in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die this albums exhibits a "quiet, tiptoeing quality" with "minimal musical fuss". It's the perfect soundtrack to relaxing with your eyes closed, just letting pleasant musical waves caress you. Excellent.
Parliament | "Mothership Connection" (1976)
I highly recommend that you improve your interplanetary funksmanship and listen to this album.
Drive-ByTruckers | "Southern Rock Opera" (2001)
Thinking man's country. Give it a listen.
