If someone had asked me if I like Metal, I would have answered, "Some."
The War on Drugs | Lost in the Dream
I like this quite a bit: sometimes channeling Springsteen, sometimes Dylan, but most often in a cool, chill melodic way. This album was released in early 2014.
Bruce Springsteen | Darkness on the Edge of Town
It's not my favorite Bruce, but he's not in danger of being fired as the BOSS.
Everyone sings when Bob Marley sings
There's no more aptly titled album than Bob Marley's Legend. The sound and the man are ingrained in our musical culture.
Everyone sings when Bob Marley sings.
Bob Marley would have been 70 years old on February 6th.
X-Ray Spex | Germ Free Adolescents #1001Albums #music
If you're a REBEL, feel disenfranchised, feel powerless in society or even against your own thoughts... or you're in love, THIS is the album for you. It's a class in what Punk was like but how old do you need to be to get the title of "Warrior in Woolworths"?
Spiritualized | Lazer Guided Melodies
Dim the lights, sit back, and CHILL.
The Adverts | Crossing the Red Sea With the Adverts (1978)
I get the emotion, but gawd, the music is awful. I would have been pretty out of place in the UK punk scene of 1978.
Moving on...
Common | Be (2005)
This was a tough album to get through. I'm not saying that the album is bad, but Rap and Hip Hop are not my favorite genres and it's difficult for me to listen to a whole album (or even multiple songs) in one sitting. I tend to lose concentration and am not able to focus on the lyrics which is where I view the value in this music. But I finally made it through.
In a moving and meaningful way, Common tells the story of his neighborhood and urges them to BE.
Also check out the Golden Globe winning song "Glory" by Common and John Legend. That award was well deserved.
How to name your new hipster band
Be on the lookout for the debut album of the Black Cookies.
João Gilberto | Getz/Gilberto #1001Albums
I'm a big Stan Getz fan, however, this album is a little low-key for my jazz tastes. It's pretty, and would make excellent background music to a romantic dinner for two in front of a fire. Perhaps you could get up to dance with your sweetheart after dinner -- at least if you know how to dance. I don't.
